Today’s article comes with another banger.
As we all know, music’s biggest night returned with all the glitz, glamour, and performances. If you somehow live under a rock and missed the gist, the 2025 Grammy Awards delivered a dazzling show that celebrated the very best in the music industry, from chart-topping icons to ‘new cats’ making their mark. Hosted at the Arena in Los Angeles, the evening was nothing short of an electrifying spectacle.
The 2025 Grammys which also poses as the 67th Annual Grammy Awards recognized the best compositions, recordings, and artists from September 16, 2023, to August 30, 2024, as chosen by the members of the recording academy, on February 2, 2025. The show was hosted by South African Comedian and former host of “The Daily Show” Trevor Noah who returned to host the Grammys for the fifth time!
In addition to celebrating the best in the music industry, this year’s show also focused on speaking about the devastating wildfires that burned through the neighbourhoods of Los Angeles last month which recorded a number of deaths. It remains an unfortunate incident and Trevor Noah took note to remind viewers and corporate sponsors alike throughout the show to donate to relief efforts and to support local businesses which were affected by the fires.
A Bedazzling Red Carpet
Now to the glitz! Which remains my favorite part of the Grammys. Before the first award was even handed out, the red carpet was already setting social media on fire with elegant looks and jaw dropping pieces. it was a visual spectacle where artistry extended beyond the stage and onto the red carpet—celebrities arrived in breathtaking ensembles that blended both high fashion with bold artistic statements. With looks ranging from classic elegance to cutting edge expressive appearances, the 2025 Grammys proved once again that music and fashion go hand in hand.
Standout looks included Taylor Swift in a stunning custom Vivienne Westwood dress with Lorraine Schwartz jewellery and Casadei heels and Jaden Smith, who turned heads with an eccentric and somewhat futuristic outfit, wearing a headpiece sculpted by Dora Abodi and a suit from Louis Vuitton. The fashion game, as always was strong, but the night belonged to the music.
The look that stole my own attention had to be Gracie Abrams in a custom Chanel dress. It was absolutely giving everything it was supposed to give… with an off-white silky dress and lacy veil that presented a classic vintage look, with an undertone of modernism and elegance; eyeliner so bold and long—sharp enough to slice through fire and ice. Gosh! It was the perfect star-stunning look worthy of a grammy show and solemn enough to pay tributes to the victims of the LA recent wildfires.
Breathtaking Momments
As always, the Grammys boasts of unforgettable live performances. More than 20 musicians performed during the awards show, which was hosted by Trevor Noah at the Arena. The show was broadcast live on CBS television stations and streamed online on Paramount+. Some of the biggest names in pop music performed on Sunday night, including nominees and award-winners Chappell Roan, Sabrina Carpenter, Billie Eilish and Charli XCX. Other beloved icons, including Shakira, John Legend and Stevie Wonder appeared. Legend helped open the curtains of the program and Wonder performed during an all-star tribute to the late Quincy Jones.
The ceremony also featured a surprise performance by The Weekend, who had shunned the Grammys for years after calling The Recording Academy “corrupt.”
In essence, the 2025 Grammy Awards showcased a stunning display of fashion and remarkable achievements. Beyoncé achieved her first Album of the Year win for Cowboy Carter, marking a historic moment as the first Black woman to receive the Best Country Album award. Her versatility was highlighted by her win for Best Country Duo/Group Performance with Miley Cyrus for “II MOST WANTED.” The magic of the evening did not end there as Kendrick Lamar also had a victorious moment, dominating several rap categories with his hit diss track “Not Like Us,” which earned him Record of the Year, Best Rap Song, Best Rap Performance, and Best Music Video, sealing his status as a leading figure in rap.
In another significant achievement, Doechii became the third woman to win Best Rap Album for ‘Alligator Bites Never Heal,’ delivering an emotional acceptance speech that deeply resonated with young Black women aiming to make their mark in hip-hop. SZA continued her success in R&B by winning Best R&B Song for “Saturn,” while Muni Long’s “Made for Me” secured her the Best R&B Performance award. Additionally, our very own Nigerian superstar ‘Tems’ reinforced her global presence by winning Best African Music Performance for “Love Me JeJe,” making the 2025 Grammys a true celebration of diverse musical talent.
