Open Call: Climate Action Commission

Deadline: September 26, 2022

The current climate emergency is an urgent and critical concern worldwide. As a cultural organisation it is our responsibility to raise awareness, as well as reducing and mitigating our own environmental impact. This commission will enable audiences to connect with environmental ideas and concerns and bring about meaningful change in perceptions and behaviours, leading to climate action and climate solutions.

We’re looking for visual artists to respond to the commission brief, developing their own interpretations and concepts on the current climate emergency whilst acknowledging the fluid and ever changing history of God’s House Tower and the speculative future of this historic monument.

As part of our ongoing commitment to anti-racism, accessibility and inclusion, we encourage expressions of interest from those who are underrepresented in current climate conversations. We would also be interested in commissioning a socially-engaged project, acknowledging the need for collective and collaborative approaches to climate action.

The commissioned artist will receive a budget of £5,000, and will exhibit at God’s House Tower from June – August 2023.

How to apply

To respond to this brief, please send your Expressions of Interest and up to 8 jpg images of recent work or a link to your website to Mia Delve at [email protected].

If you are sending film, please edit to 3 mins max. If you wish to visit GHT before submitting an Expression of Interest or if you have any questions please email Mia Delve at [email protected] or phone the ‘a space’ arts office on 02380 338 778.

A small shortlisting team will look at Expressions of Interest and shortlist two ideas that we will fund to be developed into a full proposal. Proposals must include an expanded outline of the work the artists will create, a detailed budget, timeline and plan for production.
